Dear Scarlet,Since returning to Oklahoma the weather is perfect We have been walking and being outside as much as possible. Last Friday we went to grab a few things at the store and then went to this Korean place we’d never been to before. I let you pick every flower, chase every butterfly, and climb every big rock on the way there. On the way home I let you take off her shoes and feel this particularly fluffy looking patch of grass with you bare toes. Because what else is Spring for? How impatient have we become in our day to day lives that everything is a rush? I know it’s a total cliche that the journey is more important than the destination, but it’s the truth. I let you have a coke with dinner for the first time ever. It’s not ever going to be an everyday thing, but you were so good all the way there and asked too politely to ignore. I’ve decided to pick my battles a little more and it’s working out wonderfully. You repaid me by trying and eating all the tofu, bamboo, and veggies you could. You were eating far after I was finished, and that was ok too. Because not everyday is a race, and if I can’t slow down to enjoy evenings like that then I don’t even know what my life is about. We’ve also been walking to get groceries and ice cream at Braum’s and spending every possible second outdoors. The past few days have been a little more rainy than the others, but I feel like this Spring even more than the others I’ve felt more of a desire to get connected to the outdoors. There’s a certain therapy to being in nature, and it’s exactly the kind therapy we’ve needed. I love you and have enjoyed every second of this weather with you. - Mom
